  Assisted Living & Housing Communities

There are many different kinds of assisted living arrangements available, each with its own distinct environment, services and care options. From help with laundry and meals to daily medical supervision, most arrangements can be customized to meet your needs today while offering services you may need down the road. Enjoy having more time to relax, pursue interests and share time with family and friends. Living in a community gives you the opportunity to meet new people and even take up new hobbies.

Types of Living Arrangements

As always, it is important to make an informed decision. So carefully weigh your options and priorities.

  • Continuing care retirement communities (CCRC) offer active older adults independence and a private residence, regardless of future medical needs. A CCRC provides housing, health care services and recreational activities such as fitness centers, dining, group activities and outings.
  • Assisted living communities provide room, meals and other services, like optional 24-hour supervision, personal care and assistance with medication. Some facilities specialize in providing care for people with memory loss; and while most are freestanding, some are affiliated with nursing homes.
  • Residential care, also known as personal care homes, may be an option if you are interested in living in an intimate, home-like setting with a small group.
  • Nursing homes provide long-term care including personal, dietary, therapeutic, social, spiritual, recreational and nursing services. Some nursing homes specialize in caring for people with memory loss, Parkinson's disease or other specific challenges.
